Self-Rescue Course
Climbing always carries risk—whether you’re 1,000 feet up a granite wall or 30 feet off the ground at the local crag. If something goes wrong, do you have the skills to get yourself or your partner down safely? Our Self-Rescue Course gives you the tools to do just that.
Our Self-Rescue Course teaches the essential skills every climber should have to manage emergencies, adapt on the fly, and handle the unexpected with confidence. You’ll gain practical, hands-on techniques that not only increase your personal safety but also make you a more reliable and trusted climbing partner.

Course Overview:
This comprehensive 2-day course will expand your knowledge and skill set, providing you with the foundation needed to navigate challenging situations in vertical environments.
Day 1: Building Your Rescue Toolkit
On the first day, you’ll Review belay skills and learn a variety of essential skills and techniques, including:
- Top belaying
- Rappelling
- Lowering
- Ascending ropes
- Escaping the belay
- Hauling
- Anchoring
- Knot Passing
Day 2: Applying Skills in Real-World Scenarios
The second day focuses on applying the skills learned in real, weighted scenarios off the ground. You’ll get hands-on experience in managing complex rescue situations, ensuring you’re prepared for anything that might come your way.
Join our Self Rescue Course
In this 2 day day course you will learn the following:
- Knots & Hitches
- Escaping The Belay
- Ascending the Rope
- Counter Balance Rappelling
- Lowering a Climber
- Knot Passing
Maximum group size of 12 guests (2 guides 6:1 Ratio), Minimum 2 guests.
You will finish this course confident in the technique of self rescue.

Meeting Locations
Meeting Location: Truckee North Lake Tahoe
Bookings for the Truckee Tahoe Area will be held in the vicinity of either Donner Summit Bridge, or the 06 Fire road in Sierra Meadows . We will give you the location for your course before the start date.
Meeting Location: Sonora Pass
Bookings for the Sonora Pass Area will be held in the vicinity of Pinecrest Lake Sonora Pass Highway. We will meet in front of the Pinecrest Food Market and head to our climbing location from here.
What to Bring
- Comfortable clothing suitable for climbing
- Rain Jacket
- Closed-toe shoes with good traction preferably approach shoes
- Sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses
- A small backpack (20-30 liter) with water and lunch for the day snacks
- Personal climbing gear: shoes, harness, helmet, and belay device. if you own them (optional; we will provide all necessary equipment if needed)
- Extra gear if owned: Cordelette, Double Length Sling, hollow block or 6-7mm cord, 4-5 locking carabiners, guide BD Guide ATC or Petzl Reverso
